thoroughfare

narrow alleyway in girgaon, mumbai by kunal bhatia

another photo from girgaon. this two feet wide thoroughfare connects christian dominated dabul area to the parsi dominated nawrojee lane. comfortable for a single line of people to pass through at a time.

truck loads of crap

frustrated expression in mumbai park by kunal bhatia

as if moving houses, shoping and packing for the upcoming trip, and working for the vivas wasn't enough; the attitudes, assumptions, callousness, behaviour, carelessness, and .... of a certain person have been annoying me to no end. and i'm so tired of it.

and the issue, as i see it, is going to drag on... but now i couldn't care less, i've been as understanding as i could be, and as considerate as i should have been; beyond this i'm a scorpion, and i've been forced to sting...

so-near, yet-so-far

kanchenjunga by kunal bhatia

mindless mumbai recently moved, and now i've got to follow suit. we've got to move out from our current place, to a temporary one for some time. and we've been hunting, and hunting, and hunting some more, for a suitable place. and we've not had much success yet, but have come across the most interesting landlords, existing tenants, flat layouts, flat locations and of-course, quoted prices. hopefully things shall get sorted soon. see related post here.

---

this photo is of charles correa's kanchenjunga residential apartment building at peddar road, almost all of it hidden by the tree... much like how it seems to us students, too many barriers for us to be let in and see the building from inside

hiya,
welocome to the new mindless mumbai website. mindless mumbai is a daily photo-blog from mumbai, india. and it's no longer going to continue on blogger; instead, it's got its own domain now:
www.mindlessmumbai.com/blog

some things remain unchanged: a photo a day (well, almost every day!) and a little bit about the photo.

but there are a couple of new features:
- there's an improved way to browse through the archives: by tag words (quite similar to the 'labels' here) and categories (if you're looking for photos with some specific characteristic)
- there's a random option, to view a random photo from the archive, and a mosaic option, to view the photos, sorted yearly in a mosaic format
- also being tested is a map system, which'll point out where in mumbai the photo was taken; along with a superset map, with all the positions of all the photos marked out

special thanks to vachan, partly for the hosting; and more so for finding out, installing and helping out with a lot of options meant specifically for photoblogs.

i've been working on the new site's layout and design for a few days now. bouquets and brickbats, both are equally welcome.

and, a big thanks to all visitors so far; especial thanks to fellow CDPB-loggers for being the inspiration to post daily. hope you'll continue visit us at our new location.
psst: and do update your links / blog-rolls too. thanks!

---
note of caution: much as i have worked on the html coding and css stylesheet of this new domain over the past few days, there are some things that i have just not been able to tweak. so don't be too critical if you come across some text / graphics / layout / borders / fonts that aren't too easy on the eye :)

a lot of geography was being discussed today. is the photo good enough to visit the place?

five on a bike

family on a bike in mumbai
spotted this family of five on my way home. mom-kid1-dad-kid2-kid3 all on their bike. its not a very safe way to get around, but a lot of families with young kids still do this. the buses are probably too crowded, too slow, or just not very convenient, and the ricks may be too costly, considering all the traffic jams.

the kid in the very front had his head down for all the time that these people were in our view. mom thinks that he's going to have to keep his head down for the entire journey, else he'll block his fathers view of the road. if that's true, then its sad, as well as scary.

marine drive

clicked yesterday evening at marine drive. the two brightly lit buildings are the air india HQ and the oberoi hilton towers

bhaji on the beach

pav bhaji at girgaon chowaptty in mumbai by kunal bhatia

exams got over today. all, but one, were quite ok. i've decided not to think too much about that particular one right now. its over and done with, and i can't do anything till the results are out, which seems eternally away, especially since the vivas will get over only by 13th may.

saloni, saurabh, mohit and me unwound in town after the exams. most others went to some restaurant or for a movie, but we felt like being in the open. walked a good 2.5 kms along marine drive, before reaching girgaon chowpatty (thats mumbai's most famous beach). hogged on a lot of chaat: pani puri, dahi papadi chaat, cheeze pizza and veg grilled sandwich; followed by butta (roasted corn) whilst sitting on the sands. then we headed to the juice centre at haji ali to end the evening with their delicious but way over priced milkshakes...

the photo is from a stall at the beach, from where we ordered the sandwhich and the pizza. in the photo are the ingredients for pav bhaji, as well as the finished dish. on the extreme right of the pan is the bhaji (veggies) which are continuously stirred and rotated, on the left is the mixture of tomatoes, onions, chillies etc, that goes into the bhaji; while the guy on the right is warming the pav (bread) in between these two. each of the three dishes in the front is the bhaji, topped with coriander leaves, and a handful of onions, along with a slice of lemon; and a dollop of butter.

the two cooks had no objection to me clicking the photo, as long as the name of their stall was not clicked. that worked perfectly for me!

thanks to all the visitors visiting mindless mumbai, for the time period that i've not been able to visit other city daily photo blogs. you'll are the motivation in keeping up with the daily, well almost daily, posting. will be paying you'll a visit soon...

pasta.... just the packets

pasta packets in a super market in mumbai

completely unrelated to anything going on nowdays. this is just a random photo i found in my archive, and i decided to not-think-much before posting it. we've been studying hard in college :) on the other hand, by some chance this may actually not be such a random photo, after all. who wouldn't want a great pasta treat after all the studying.... yummm....

plucking kairis

plucking mangoes from a tree in mumbai by kunal bhatia
we got the watchman to pluck out some kairis (raw mangoes) yesterday from our mango-tree. we had planted the tree over 13 years ago, and it just started bearing fruit last year. we can't wait for the mangoes to ripen on the tree, because somebody or the other from the street usually plucks them out out. the raw mangoes though, make for lip-smacking pickles.

versova beach

versova beach sunset by kunal bhatia

theme day id=13
i was just about to post another photo, when i looked at the date and realised its THEME DAY. and the theme is WATER. this photo is taken at versova beach, the sunset looks great, especially when 'equalized' on photoshop :)
there are many previous photos at the same beach, just hunt under the label water. no time to do the linking here.
