  1. Hello Kunal
(I’m having some trouble getting a comment in so I had to do a little bit of circumventing to get to you)…Thanks for the visit. You must be busy with school these days. I do love the painted lady photo, kitch or not

  2. Jashn Osianama : Kala, Cinema Aur Sanskriti Ka Mela
500 Years of Violence Non Violence

Jashn-Osianama is a new Festival for the Visual Arts which will be held annually in both Mumbai and New Delhi, so as to take the best of Indian, Asian and World art, cinema and culture to the general public. The gap between the western museum exhibition experience and the Indian mela needs to be bridged without a compromise in content, but by innovating new structures and formats, so that culture in its best forms can reach out to our public and elite equally, though differently absorbed. The building of the Osianama Cultural Complex (at the erstwhile Minerva cinema, Lamington Road) will
hopefully take on this task more comprehensively. Jashn-Osianama has been curated by Neville Tuli and the Osian’s CARD Team from the unique Osian’s Archive & Library Collection which will form the heart of the Osianama Cultural Complex.

This year Jashn-Osianama will focus on ‘500 Years of Violence Non Violence’ bringing together artworks and other cultural objects of exceptional quality from around the world. [See next page for Curatorial Vision and categories. The warmth, vibrancy and sense of inclusive revelry witnessed at a mela will be absorbed by Jashn-Osianama, hand in hand with trying to share the most refined and subtle artistic ideas and sensibilities with the public. Art exhibitions in India have still not succeeded in evoking a passionate response from the wider public, though the mood has radically changed during the last decade and will continue to evolve in the coming years, as art becomes a daily part of everyday life.

Over the coming years Jashn-Osianama will bring together all aspects of art and culture, be it popular, fine arts, crafts, cinema, theatre and music, creating the classic connect that has been at the heart of the philosophy at Osian’s. However, this year, the diversity and the sheer range of the visual arts on display will be enough to excite and arouse the minds of our people, across all backgrounds.

As Osian’s celebrates its ninth year, Jashn-Osianama begins the countdown to the Opening of The Osianama, India’s first integrated museum-archive-edutainment centre for the Indian, Asian arts and World cinema, expected to open next year.

    Quote from Mr. Neville Tuli

“For the past nine years Osian’s objective has been to take the arts out of the purview of the few and traverse all sections of society irrespective of social class and privilege yet without compromising on intellectual rigor and aesthetic sensibilities. This is a most difficult balance. Creating the basic platforms and public goodwill and excitement have taken us over nine years, and still there is much work to be completed.”
