santacruz station road

santacruz station road

08-11-231

i’ve decided to carry my camera along a bit more often, while im interning. it may help while away some time while stuck in traffic, especially in the evenings. the only hitch being that my point and shoot doesn’t really give great results while shooting at night. anyway, this is from the footbridge at santacruz station, looking to the west. here’s an earlier photo of the road leading to parle east station - all station roads appear familiar at the first glance. there was this first year visual studies project we had done, based on parle station road - i had taken up the well along the road, and many people who’d lived there all their life couldn’t remember ever noticing a well.

old, new & temporal

old, new & temporal

08-09-281

an ad being fixed on a bus-stop along juhu-versova link road. the new bus-stops have a one-fix-for-all-situations approach, and are plonked everywhere, irrespective of foothpath size and passenger-traffic. i prefer the old concrete bus stops over these new shiny ones

library in a rick

library in a rick

08-08-221

saw this rickshaw while stuck in traffic on juhu-versova link road. on the rear side of the driver’s seat was this stack of books, in hindi as well as english. haven’t seen any other rick like this before. i was wondering about the kind of books he would keep in here. i can’t make out any of the titles, except on; which reads: ’self evolution’. nothing like a quick read while stuck in the traffic, eh?

refill

refill
every now and then i question whether this blog ought to show more of the ‘touristy’ mumbai: the famous buildings, beaches, religious spots etc. but then this would become like most other collection of the city’s photos. (to be honest, i’ve already posted a lot of such shots).

but the last couple of posts have been very, what shall i say, they’ve been frames that are quite cut off from their surroundings. could they have been shots from any other city?

anyway, with that in mind, i was going through the photos on the computer; but i still didn’t want a very postcard photo. so, i settled for this one. its flora fountain at fort. more about the fountain here. notice the truck in the background on the right? that’s refilling water into the fountain on a hot summers day.! shot this some time in may last year.

i like such shots where a bit of value-addition to the over-seen-visuals of places / objects is present. i also think that the fragments that i was talking about earlier actually count for the uniqueness of each place. i just don’t know what happens when they’re framed in complete isolation of their surroundings. what do you’ll think? am i making any sense?
