theme day: when people think of mumbai they think of ...

crowds at andheri railway station
when people think of mumbai they think of businesses and money, of bollywood and glamour, of people and work culture, of expensive realty and inadequate infrastructure... but in all this, one is never alone, there will always be a crowd ahead / behind / around you ...

today is the monthly theme day, and for feb 2008 the theme is "When people think of my city, they think of . . ."

  5. I lived in Mumbai for 7 years. Taking the Western Line every weekday and most weekends to work. This photograph brought back memories, the smells of stations I used to pass through. I didn't have to look outside the window to know if I was nearing Mahim or Bandra. The smell of baking as I approached Parla from the North. I miss the monsoon, with the smell of rain mingling with sweat drenched clothes in the 2nd class compartment and the same smell with a hint of aftershave when I graduated to the first class. Most of all I miss the energy and the smile of Mumbaikars!

  12. Very philosophical. "One is never alone". I like your crowd photo and your thoughts.

  13. One is never alone and only a few swim against the tide. I'm struck by the single line of people descending on the right in opposition to the horde ascending.

  14. I really don't have any preconceived notions about Mumbai. This is a nice photo though. Luckily it never gets that crowded here in Jackson, but I have experienced crowds in other places I've lived and I don't like it!

  25. Very nice photo, glad not to be in the middle of it. Made me laugh to notice that people in your town are walking down on the right side. In Paris, it would be the other way around. Have you notice crowds always walk in the same directions?
